Deeply Moved at the New Unity Movement Collection Launch
I spent a meaningful evening at the launch of the Unity Movement Collection at Stellenbosch University Library last Friday.
The event featured a compelling panel discussion with Professors Crain Soudien and Lungisile Ntsebeza, as well as lecturer Felicity Titus, alongside an inspiring exhibition of original archival materials. The exhibition included rare documents, photographs, and historical records spanning several decades of anti-apartheid activism. It was wonderful to see students, staff, and guests engaging directly with these primary sources.
The Unity Movement collection will play a crucial role in deepening our students’ understanding of South Africa’s complex past and the values of justice, unity, and intellectual courage. The exhibition brought history to life in a powerful way and reminds us of future possibilities.
A heartfelt thank you to colleague Ellen Tise and the exceptional Library team for their excellent work in curating this collection and creating such an engaging launch programme.
